This year our 2019-20 Church Year Annual and Calendar will follow the theme Show Me Your Glory, a title which alludes to the onset of Israel’s wilderness journeys where Moses asked to see God's glory. On the brink of traveling to the land of Promise which God had determined to give to the rescued tribes of Israel, Moses pleaded with God not let them go into the land alone, unattended by his Spirit and help. God graciously said he would accompany them during the journey and into the land, all to fulfill his gracious promise to their fathers. In the midst of this requesting and answering, Moses boldly asked the Lord if he would show his glory to him. God immediately agreed to fulfill his request (cf. Exod. 33:19-23), promising to proclaim his name before him (v. 19), with one all-important caveat. The LORD would pass before him, but only permit Moses to see his “back” but not his “face,” (v. 19) which none could see and live. Every disciple of Jesus displays a similar desire to see God’s glory–to know God. “And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent” (John 17.3, ESV). We, too, plead to God for him to show us his glory, that we too might marvel in his goodness and excellence. We are excited about including the reading of a devotional classic in our prayers and reflections during our extended Ordinary Time observances during the Season After Pentecost. This year we will use A. W. Tozer’s The Knowledge of the Holy (New York, NY: HarperCollins Publishers, 1961) to shape our reflections and reactions as we walk together this Church Year. His work is a brilliant theological devotional on the attributes of God, designed for spiritual formation and blessing. His insights into the nature of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit has proven to be a remarkably enriching treatise for all who have discovered it. What’s more, its small in stature and length is bound to make it easier for fellow pilgrims to digest its nuggets, and stay in sync with our weekly readings and teachings. Undoubtedly, we suspect that our souls and hearts will be renewed and revived as we take weeks together to reflect of the glory and majesty of the great God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!
